Make A Pumpkin Snowman For Your Porch

Have you had enough of pumpkins yet…pumpkin pie, pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin bread?  I have one more use for pumpkins to share with you. Make a Pumpkin Snowman for your front porch.

We grew pumpkins in our garden again this year and had an overabundance of them. Plenty of pumpkins left over for me to make this little winter craft.  I do love to grow pumpkins and winter squash.  It’s always exciting to see those little vegetables grow to monstrous proportions.

This pumpkin snowman is an easy craft. Just stack the pumpkins on a dowel and then spray paint them white. You could also add some artificial snow on top of the paint.  Finally, on came the arms, face, and scarf.

  1. Gather your supplies.Pumpkins gathered for making a pumpkin snowman.
  2. Remove the stems of your pumpkins.
  3. Choose the largest of 3 pumpkins for the base.  Drill or poke a hole into the top of the pumpkin.  Don’t go all the way through to the bottom.
  4. Insert a dowel pre-measured to the height of your 3 pumpkins.
  5. Make a small hole in the top and bottom of the middle pumpkin.  Slide this pumpkin onto the dowel and seat it on top of the bottom pumpkin.Stacking pumpkins on a dowel for a pumpkin snowman.

  7. In a well ventilated area, spray the pumpkin with white paint.  You will need several light coats to completely cover the pumpkins.
  8. If desired you can also coat the pumpkins with the artificial snow.  Allow to dry.
  9. Poke holes in the sides of the middle pumpkin and insert 2 branches for arms.
  10. For the face, hot glue a variety of buttons or use a sharpie to draw the face on. Attach the carrot nose with a toothpick.Adding the final details to the pumpkin snowman.
  11. Add a hat and scarf to decorate your pumpkin snowman.

You might not have any leftover pumpkins hanging around. If not, this winter craft can be made from artificial pumpkins you might have leftover or even paper mache pumpkins.  This is a fun way to remind ourselves that winter is here.  Embrace it.  If a pumpkin snowman is not in your plans you might try making paper snowflakes or a sweater wreath to warm up your winter days.
